Ballyowen Golf Club

From Gene Mulvihill:

“I first met Roger back in the late 80’s when we hired Robert Trent Jones to build a nine hole short course. He and his shapers gave us a great little course on a tough site now known as the Minerals Golf Club. The Roger Rulewich story had been going on with Jones for a long time and the world didn’t know it. But I did! When Jones closed his shop and Roger set up his own, I asked him to look at some land for a golf course. He agreed that this sorry, old sand and gravel pit had potential and set out to give us a masterpiece. I only told him I wanted “wide fairways”. He gave us wide fairways and a hell of a lot more. After less than 5 months of construction, what is now Ballyowen Golf Club opened in 1998 as the flagship of our collection of courses.”

“Instead of looking for another “big name” architect, I gave Roger the task of designing our next course, Wild Turkey, on an even more difficult site. He did it again and the course is now the most popular and heavily played at Crystal Springs Resort. A new course that will play from our spectacular clubhouse is already in planning. Guess who the architect is! Roger has some great ideas for this one. It will compliment the others but will have a new look as well.”

“Roger and his people have been great to work with. Throw them a curve and they hit a home run. I hope our projects have done as much for Roger as he has done for us.”
