Crumpin Fox
I had bought a new house close to my hometown, and was fortunate enough to be the only one located on one of Roger’s early masterpieces, Crumpin-Fox Golf Club. Not long after, I purchased the nine hole course with its surrounding property. Roger had laid out the entire eighteen but the owner wasn’t able to realize his dream of finishing the course. I decided to contact Roger, who was still working for Robert Trent Jones at the time, and asked him to help me finish the course. After such a successful project I knew I would want to own and operate more golf courses, and Roger was definitely my architect.
I found my next opportunity in Tampa, Florida with a project that had a routing plan by another designer. Before I moved forward with the purchase I made sure everyone involved knew that Roger would be designing and directing the construction of the golf course, to be called Fox Hollow Golf Club. With two successful projects under my belt Roger and I started to scout new properties in Connecticut. We agreed on a beautiful piece of land adjacent to Devils Hopyard State Park. Again Roger and his construction team built a golf course I can truly be proud to call part of the Fox family, Fox Hopyard Golf Club. I consider Roger more like a brother than a business associate.
When he started his own firm, after the retirement of Robert Trent Jones, it was by my suggestion that his office became a log cabin I owned off the 17th green of Crumpin-Fox. To this day we continue to play a three day match annually between our companies, which began in 1989 while the 2nd nine of Crumpin-Fox was being finished. Even back surgery couldn’t stop me from playing Roger in our Sunday singles match this past year. To say I consider Roger one of the best architects in the field today would be an understatement. To say I consider Roger just a friend would also be an understatement. If I were to build another golf course I don’t think I could find a better designer, or construction team to make it a reality than the Roger Rulewich Group.
